REVIEW: Wine Bar George

Last weekend the World Showcased Team got in touch with their inner wino by checking out Disney Springs’ newest wine bar, Wine Bar George. This beautiful indoor/outdoor retreat, complete with over 130 different wine selections, is the brainchild of Master Sommelier, George Miliotes, and opened this Summer. However, you don’t have to be a wine connoisseur to love this treasure as there’s something for everyone-regardless of how refined your palate may be. Upon entering, you know immediately you’re in for a treat as you leave the realm of theme parks behind and fall into vineyard escape that is a treat for the sights and senses. The entrance of Wine Bar George is welcoming and warm, with a large U-shaped bar area that takes center stage. But it’s the second floor that is truly a show stopper. As you walk up the stairs, you are greeted with not only another small bar area, but a small dining area and couches to make you feel right at home. Don’t stop there. Head just around the corner to find yet another dining area, complete with floor to ceiling windows. It has a spectacular view of Disney Springs and even has a small terrace balcony to enjoy the views outside. We can’t wait to take advantage of this as soon as the rainy afternoons in Orlando come to an end for the Summer. George has done a spectacular job of creating a visually beautiful hideaway where you can spend a quick drink, or entire evening catching up with friends.

While the ambiance has stopped us dead in our tracks, it is the food and drinks that are something we can’t stop talking about. A hot, September Orlando day calls for nothing other than Frosé, and Wine Bar George truly does not disappoint. It’s the perfect combination of slush and Rosé that will leave you wanting more. Our waiter, Alexander, brought us our stunning cocktails- complete with blackberry garnish. Alexander changed up the fruit garnish with each round.

The only thing that may have been better than our drinks was the service. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly faces who were more than willing to tell us their favorite items, and the story of the different wines. While the restaurant does offer a small lunch menu, we settled on few appetizers to share and sample and with Alexander’s assistance, we settled on hummus-complete with seasoned pita and cucumbers, meatballs with triple cheese polenta, and the world-famous crispy mac and cheese bites. It is safe to say that we were not disappointed and the best part- we left feeling light and like we didn’t over eat, which is often hard to do in Walt Disney World. While we loved everything we ate, the triple cheese polenta stole the show. We’re still daydreaming about that cheesy goodness and counting the minutes until we go back.

We ended our lunch date with a sample wine from their Outstanding by the Ounce wine menu. This list was made up by George with selections that he deems as some of the “greatest.” While these wines do tend to be on the pricier selection on the menu, Wine Bar George offers small 1-ounce samples to get your palates going. If Chilean red wine is your thing, we strongly suggest trying the Casas Del Bosque. It was incredibly smooth and left me wanting more than just an ounce. The best part of the Outstanding menu? George himself will pour you a glass and personally tell you about the wine you selected! This is truly an experience that is hard to find outside Napa Valley, let alone in Orlando.

Having just finally come out of our food and wine coma, I can safely say that Wine Bar George is one of the best new restaurants to hit the Disney food scene. It even caters to those looking for a quick bite. Just outside the main entrance is a counter service option- The Basket. It offers a limited menu for to go options and quick bites with wine choices with an outdoor terrace area to enjoy. If you’re searching for a delectable retreat with friends, look no further than Wine Bar George. We promise it will not disappoint!
